- Annie and Philip eloped to South Carolina when she was only 15,
and she had to fib about her age to get married. It lasted 53 years,
so apparently they knew a good thing when they found it. She was a
small woman in size, but not in impact. She took no nonsense off of
anyone, but was good-hearted to the core. Philip idolized her. She
worked most of her life, but managed to take good care of her home and
three sons. Nobody could fry chicken better than she could, which her
children enjoyed for many a Sunday dinner even after they married.
For many years she was an LPN in the office of Dr. Orr and his
associates. The heart disease that seems to run in the Dodson family
eventually took her life, but she kept her dignity and independent
spirit to the end. Gene and Bert had the privilege of caring for her
in their home for the last eighteen months of her life.
