- The following is per Mary Jane PIPES Frank: Mimi, as we knew her, ran boarding houses for as long as I can remember. She had several roomers who remained with her until her death. At one time she had a BBQ joint in Houston. Very early, before my memory, she had a restaurant in Galveston, down by the Strand. The Galveston Daily News, Mrs. Ethel Fletcher Mrs. Ethel Fletcher, 58, of 2124 P 1/2, died at 6:20 p.m. Wednesday in John Sealy Hospital. A resident of Galveston for 35 years, Mrs. Fletcher was born Nov. 4, 1899, in Lovelady, Texas. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. John Kantowskie Jr. of Galveston; two sons, Robert Pipes of Hitchcock and Raymond Pipes, Galveston; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services are under the direction of Malloy & Son Funeral Home. Follow-up in next days paper: Mrs. Ethel Fletcher Services for Mrs. Ethel Fletcher, 58, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Malloy & Son funeral home, the Rev. John R. Hillman officiating. Burial will be in Galveston Memorial Park. Mrs. Fletcher, who resided at 2124 avenue P 1/2, died Wednesday in John Sealy Hospital. Pallbearers will be Charles Garcia, Ernest and John Kantowski, and Kenneth, Joe and Max Streeter. Cause of Death: Congestive heart failure and diabetes mellitus. Medical Information: Had below the knee amputation due to diabetes.
