- The following information from the memory of Annie Mae Clark Tucker: James Richard had little or no formal education. He was unable to read or write other than to sign his name. He was a gifted artist and was able to reproduce freehand anything he could look at a picture of or any object he could look at while drawing it. He worked in the maintinance department for the city of Lubbock, Texas as a "SIGN PAINTER" as well as a trash collector and a gate keeper at the city dump. Other jobs he had were as a snake handler in the circus and street maintinance for the city of Slaton, Texas. He also worked on a dairy farm. His hobbies included Tooling Leather, drawing, Knife throwing.
