- Per Mary Jane PIPES Frank: Trinity Standard Weeda Faye Kennedy Houston - Funeral services for Weeda Faye Pipes Kennedy, 51, were conducted September 15 in the Jersey Village Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Morgan and Rev. Ed Hogan officiating. Burial followed in the Bennett Cemetery at Groveton with Rev. Lester McAdams officiating. Mrs. Kennedy was a 1965 graduate of Groveton High School. She attended Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches. She was employed by Advanced Products and Systems, Inc. of Lafayette, LA. with 20 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. She had been a member of the Jersey Village Baptist Church since 1974. Survivors include her husband of 33 years, Joe Don Kennedy; sons, Kevin Kennedy and wife, Terry, Spring, Keith Kennedy and fiance, Tracy Moore, Jersey Village; granchildren, Jake, Seth and Kyle Kennedy; sisters: Evoyne Gates and husband Elvis, Kountze, Pauline Barnes, San Antonio; parents-in-law, Buford and Christine Kennedy of Groveton; sister-in-law, Ann Netta Oliverio and husband, Don, Austin; brother-in-law, Eddie Kennedy and wife, Dorothy, Groveton; nieces, Connie Gates, Jeanie Gates, Janice Friday and husband, Jackie; nephews, Gordon Gates and wife, Debbie, Jerry Gates and wife, Debbie; uncle, Alton Stovall and wife, Linnie and a host of other nieces. Pall bearers: Kevin Kennedy, Keith Kennedy, Greg Powell, Gordon Gates, Jerry Gates and Eddie Kennedy. ******************** Woman Killed In I-10 Wreck A 51 year old Houston woman was killed in a two vehicle accident in the rain about 10:30 p.m. Sunday night on Interstate 10, approximately 14 miles east of Columbus. The woman was identified as Weeda Kennedy, 51, of Houston. Kennedy was eastbound at the time of the accident, driving a 1994 Lincoln Continental. There was moderate rain reported at the time. According to a Texas Department of Public Safety report, her vehicle skidded out of control and crossed the median on the highway. At that time a tractor-trailer truck driven by Joseph Gentry of Tennessee was westbound and the two vehicles collided. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by Peace Justice Frances Truchard. The truck driver was not injured. DPS Trooper Anthony Owens investigated. He was assisted by Trooper Richard Krenek of Austin County and Colorado County sheriff's deputies. ******************** I-10 claims Houston woman over the weekend Weeda Pipes Kennedy of Houston lost her life Saturday night in an accident on Interstate 10 approximately 14.4 miles east of Columbus. Kennedy was traveling eastbound in the rain around 10:30 p.m. when she lost control of the auto she was driving and crossed the median into the westbound traffic. The 1994 Lincoln Continental she drove was struck on the passenger side by a 1995 Peterbilt truck. She was pronounced dead by Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Judge Francis Truchard at the scene. Her body was taken to Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus, and next of kin were notified. ******************** Medical Information: Joe Don Kennedy-Weeda's husband says she had a rare blood disorder that had already caused her to have two strokes. May have had another which caused the car wreck.
