Genealogy has been an interest of Ashleigh's for close to 60 years, since a cousin wrote to "The Original Mitchell Family of Carlsbad, New Mexico"

As it so happened, that family was my father's, and one of his cousins coincidentally happened to work at the Post Office, so delivery of the letter was easily accomplished.

Since then, I've been aided in research by many other cousins, both mine and Katrina's, gathering the information that we present here. I would like to thank Josie Burleson Hendley, my father's cousin, and Annie "Cookie Clark Tucker, along with Elsie Albright Pearson, both of whom were cousins of my mother, for all the advice, guidance, and data they shoveled my way while learning what I was doing.

William Abner Allbright is the father of Willie Mae Allbright who married William Monroe Clark, the later are the grand parents of Ann "Cookie" Clark-Tucker (1943 - 2005) who owned this photo. The Allbrights and Adams families lived on farms on the old Steven Box League, Southwest of Crockett. The foregoing was annotated by Jim Yarbrough, Great Grandson of Emma Allbright-Adams.

William Monroe Clark and Willie Mae Allbright are also the parents of William Frank Clark, who married Eula Clara Jones, who are the grandparents of Ashleigh Mitchell, the owner of this website.

About our name

I saw behind me those who had gone, and before me those who are to come. I looked back and saw my father and his father and all our fathers, and in front to see my son and his son, and the sons upon sons beyond. And their eyes were my eyes. As I felt so they had felt, and were to feel, as then, so now, as tomorrow and forever. Then I was not afraid, for I was in a long line that had no beginning and no end. And the hand of his father grasped my father's hand and his hand was in mine, and my unborn son took my right hand and all, up and down the line that stretched from Time That Was to Time That Is and Is Not Yet, raised their hands to show the link. And we found that we were one. ...
From: "How Green Was My Valley", by Richard Llewellyn

I first read these words in the late 1960s, and the image of one's ancestors fanning back towards infinity has remained with me. Hence, when it came time to register the domain name for my genealogy site, although my primary focus is on "All Our Relations", the more logical choice was in deed, LookingBackwards.

"All Our Relations" is a phrase used by several Native American tribes, bands, and councils, to describe the interrelationship between themselves and the rest of creation. It isn’t just about your family, loved ones or those biologically linked to you. It is much deeper than that. All Our Relations is the acknowledgement that each and every person you encounter throughout life is from the Creator and thus, related to you.

As a couple in a non-traditional marriage, Katrina and I, both of whom were taught that they have NAtive American ancestry - Katrina being a lineal descendant of Chief Joseph Kincaid, and Ashleigh haveing been brought up the stories of her Creek (or possibly Cherokee) ancestors, both acknowledge this description as being important to us, hence it is added to our Looking Backwards tage for our family history, because Family History is much more than just genetic ancestry and relationship. It's the people, the stories, and the experiences that combine to make a family.
