Siobhan’s Story
I don’t remember what campaign Siobhan was created for, or whether she was an NPC in one of my own games, or a player character in one of our rotating GMs. Re-reading her character history, and looking at some of the other character sheets I have from this time period, she was part of a band – think something along the lines of Siouxsie Sioux and the Banshees meets Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and then they collide with Ritchie Blackmore and a heaping dose of Cyndi Lauper – and whatever the campaign was, it was inspired by both Emma Bull’s War for the Oaks and Charles de Lint’s Newford series, and was set in a contemporary time.
Siobhan’s Story
I was born in the year 1762 by Christian church reckoning, in the month of December, the 13th day of the above. My birth place is the island if Eire (Ireland), in the area of Ulster and the county of Donegal.
My people, not being an overly fertile race, rarely had children. I was the first born in over a 300 year period. The family to which I was born is an average extended family, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and the occasional human orphan that we found abandoned. It was hoped that by introducing human blood to our blood that we might become more prolific. This has not proved true up to this date. Hopefully it will change with time.
My people, being reclusive, rarely had anything to do with the humans that lived in the same area as us, but as we are often empathic, those who suffer around us affect us. In 1801 when the English took over rule of the land for the last time, the suffering and outrage was so great that even affected us in our barrows and halls. Then in 1847-48 when the great famine hit, we were unprepared for the psychic pain that we would to experience. My family group thought that it would be for the best for us to emigrate to France and Britany and meet with our distant cousins.
When we arrived in France (1848) we found the situation was not any better. The humans were planning on a revolution. We could not stay in that atmosphere so we immigrated once again to the provinces of Canada.
My family settled in Quebec in the forested outskirts of what was to become a large city in the near future. As I grew older and entered young adulthood (138-and on up) I found myself fascinated with the humans all around us. I found their music to be exciting and began to learn the popular songs of the era.
As time passed into the 20th century I found myself drawn more and more into human company. In the 1930’s, I often crossed the border between the United States and Canada to see the sights and excitement of the big American cities. In the 1950’s and 60’s, I witnessed the birth of rock and roll and decided that it was what I wanted. Not that I didn’t love all music, I was a folk singer long before Peter, Paul and Mary were potty-trained, but rock became a driving passion.
In the 80’s I joined a band, The Kilderry Kats, and with them began to live most of the time in the human realm. My family of course was extremely upset. No more children had been born after me and the elders were older than you could imagine. They however understand that this is a phase that I am going through and that it will pass with age — they hope.
Some info on me: I stand 1.8 meters and weigh 46 kilograms. I also have shocking magenta hair, all natural, that is currently very short all around except for the “tail”, which goes down to my knees. My eyes are a pale slate blue and my ears are pointed. How, you ask, did I ever appear out in pubic? The hair was easy, wigs of course. And hairstyles to hide the ears. Nowadays, I just tell people that I’m a big Trekkie and had my ears altered by surgery. I prefer natural fiber clothing and flat shoes for all times except for show times when I wear 12 centimeter heels. I play the harp and bass and sing as well as practice martial arts.
During Queen Vickie’s jubilee I took a trip back to Eire to see if things had changed, they hadn’t, and from there traveled extensively in Europe.
